Below, we have tried to provide a post/explanation for our users that was not “too technical.” Because of this, some of the terminology may not be 100% “technically” accurate. Our intentions are to communicate the issues/changes so that everyone can understand them as much as possible. Thanks.
Over the past few weeks, some users have been experiencing issues with Facebook Authorization. The main cause of this was a number bugs on Facebook that caused Facebook Page permissions to be revoked.
At the same time, Facebook was making some changes to apps authorization for posting, reading etc. from Facebook Users and their Pages. Facebook has decided to remove “offline_access” – a feature that allowed apps to post on behalf of users when they are not actively using the apps.
As a result, Facebook will only be letting apps get authorization for a limited period of time. Because of this, our users will now need to reauthorize their Facebook accounts periodically. We have added two new elements to aid in this:
- When a user’s Facebook account(s) needs to be reauthorized or reconnected, a pop-up will be displayed to that user upon logging into Squareberry. This pop-up will have links for quickly reauthorizing the Facebook account(s) in question.
- An email alert will be sent when the Facebook account needs to be reauthorized, providing a link to log in and perform this task.
Our email alerts will be sent every 45 days. This allows some breathing time in case you cannot reauthorize an account right away. The alert will be sent to the email address provided in the Settings area for “Email to Send Alert Emails To”. This setting defaults to the Account Owner’s email address.
These new changes are essential for Squareberry to comply with the changes made by Facebook. We also hope that Facebook resolves authorization issues being experienced by some users, but there is no guarantee of this.
